Rostra from the Punic Wars

Bronze ram or rostrum, one of ten recently found during a survey of the sea bed off Sicily. The rams way about 125 kg each, or 275 pounds. They bear inscriptions in Latin or Punic, and seem to date to the period of the First Punic War (264-241 BCE).
