More Heavyweights Say Assad is Near the End

The head of German's intelligence service is the latest well-connected, well-informed westerner to say that the Syrian government is near to collapse. This was just one day after the US ambassador said the same thing. I wonder if these statements are designed to create the reality they describe (by  encouraging rebels and discouraging government soldiers), or to persuade Assad to flee, or if they really believe this.
