Archaeology from the Air in Denmark

Results are in from a recent aerial survey of Denmark, which led to the discovery of numerous archaeological sites. Above, Iron Age long houses laid out end-to-end along both sides of a village street. Behind the houses are the remains of outbuildings.

One result of the studies has been more data for understanding how housing changed over time. Note the medieval discovery that curved, out-ward bowing walls are stronger than straight walls.
