American painter Thomas Moran (1837-1926) is best known for his landscapes of the American west, but he traveled widely and painted cities and some imaginary works as well as landscapes. I have always liked his paintings of Venice, done on two trips in 1888 and 1898 (above).
Fort Georges Island (Florida), 1892.
The Chicago Worlds Fair, 1894.
Green River of Wyoming, 1878.
Fantastic Landscape, 1895.
Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, 1893.
Autumn Landscape, ca. 1865.
