The Times has a nice map feature on what would really be involved in a "land swap" solution to Israeli/Palestinian Peace. You can see some of the options that have been discussed in detail and read about others. Click on the map to enlarge
If you ask me, the convolutions of this map explain very well why this is unworkable, and how cruel and foolish is has been for the Israelis to let settlers build homes more than 5 miles from the 1948 border. I am not a fanatic about that 1948 border, which was just an accident, and in principle I think another line might work better. But allowing Israel to keep control of long fingers of land that run into Palestine and cut Palestinian neighbors off from each other strikes me as a recipe for unending conflict.
Does this look like a sensible national border to your?
