These charming nematodes were found living 1.3 km, or 4200 feet, below the ground in a South African gold mine. Half a millimeter long, they feed on bacteria. They were found by sampling the water pouring from borehholes in the walls of the mine.These worms are more evidence that life, once it evolves, will expand into every available environment, and therefore that there is no life hiding in cracks on Mars.
