Working with my crew today in Delaware, testing a nineteenth-century farm site. Here Jackie is digging out a portion of a round pit that I think is probably a well. This site is unusual because it is in a swamp but was occupied for at least the whole nineteenth century, and maybe as late as 1920. Why live in such a spot for so long? The site does not seem especially poor, either, but has the usual assortment of artifacts for a tenant farm.
It was a lovely day, the first in a long time that bordered on hot, and it was good to be outside.
