Italian Archaeologists
have uncovered a trove of statues that were deliberately buried in a basin near a villa on the Via Anagnina. The statues seem to represent members of the Severan Dynasty, which ruled Rome from AD 193 to 235. After Alexander Severus was assassinated by his own troops, the owners of this villa must have decided that they no longer wanted statues of the former dynasty prominently displayed on their property.
