Umm Mawagir

Working at an oasis in the western desert of Egypt archaeologists John and Deborah Darnell of Yale have uncovered a major site dating to around 1600 BC. Above is a bakery complex big enough to feed an army; below, stray finds. John Noble Wilford has a nice write-up in the Times.
