Domenico Ghirlandaio

I spent last night in the home of my sister the art historian, perusing her book collection, and I stumbled across this painting by Domenico Ghirlandaio. This is Virgin and Child with SS. Michael, Justus, Zenobius, and Raphael, alias the San Giusto Altarpiece, painted in the 1470s. (click to enlarge) Something about the arrangement of soft faces around the infant draws me in and makes this stand out from all the other Renaissance Madonnas I have seen.
