I just received an email invitation to a talk, "with refreshments and networking to follow."
I'm not sure what the big deal is - people have been delivering exactly that kind of invitation since the 70s at least, they just likely would have chosen a different word than "networking".
Some people lack a sense of the unutterable evil that lurks behind apparently everyday words.
I feel that way about words like "change."
