Gandhi on Cultural Appropriation

I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be closed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible.

  1. Of course, Gandhi was widely traveled and highly educated, which strongly correlates with cosmopolitan thinking.

I can't help but wonder about the opinions of many of his more mundane and provincial followers, who never had such advantages. To some, it may well have seemed to be a terrible storm to be shut out, rather than a gentle breeze to be welcomed in.
