Be Something

Just sat through another middle school graduation, which went about as you would expect.

The principal gave a speech about the "BE - ATTITUDES." Like, Be positive. Be considerate. Be creative. Seven things like that, the rest of which I can't recall because they all blur together for me. And then the inevitable eighth:
be yourself.
And if it so happens that you are not positive, creative, considerate, or whatever the other four things were, too bad.

Sigh.

    Bill: Sure, Missy.
[she draws a blank stare at Bill]

    Bill: I mean, Mom.
[she smiles and puts on her Ray-Bans]

Ted: [whispering to Bill] Your stepmom's cute.

    Bill: Shut up, Ted.
Ted: Remember when she was a senior and we were freshmen?

    Bill: Shut up, Ted!

Ted: Remember when I asked her to the prom?

    Bill: SHUT UP, TED!
