The First Sultry Day

I took a walk at lunch on this steamy, overcast day, searching for flowers in Georgetown. It felt like a thunderstorm might burst forth any any minute, but the weather service says not until tonight.

The late tulips are wilting in the heat, and most of the summer flowers on display were hothouse transplants in urns, like these.

I did find a few flowers blooming in season, including lovely columbine at the house of the mad old lady cottage gardener on N Street.
