But I suppose it was something of the norm at the time.<br /><br />I'm actually put in mind of Twain's short story <i>The War Prayer</i>, which does a stunning job of pointing out the absurdity of invoking a figure of peace and love such as Jesus in reference to the bloodshed and slaughter of a battlefield. How laughable to imagine the man who said such things as "Render Unto Caesar" and "Turn The Other Cheek" would be pleased by such slaughter, no matter the cause or its nobility...G.
