This is the same argument I saw by some Polish historians arguing that communist takeover of Poland was good, because it removed the old elites, paved the way for the peasants, destryed power of church etc - things which somehow happened in other countries too without decades of oppression, murdering of thousands etc. Not to mention that the guys proposing this vision forgot that most of elite removal was done by nazis, so the implication of their thesis was that actually German invasion, intelligenzaktions, mass murder where just sad, but necessary things.szopenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02234132446740838968noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8304928500646903522.post-40179891118219897692022-01-01T05:35:03.785-05:002022-01-01T05:35:03.785-05:00I've read this book last year and I couldn'...I've read this book last year and I couldn't take the author with an objectivity she deserved. For me it sounded as "yes, my family were gestapo apparatchiks, but they were misled and they were idealistic, and we had bad too". I don't know how well it was translated into English, but in Polish, in addition, the story sounded dry and sometimes with awkward choice of words and sentences (which is most likely the fault of the translator, but still). It was not bad book for me, overall, but I enjoyed mostly the first part, while later I was more and more irritated at the narrator.szopenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02234132446740838968noreply@blogger.com
