Basic healthcare is beyond many, if not most, Americans and psychiatric care only moreso. Poverty and income inequality produce massive stressors on the poor and vulnerable elements of our society, exacerbated by poor access to housing, poor access to healthy food, etc. Our "justice" system is virtually designed to take minor offenders and transform them into career criminals. Homelessness is a growing problem which has known solutions that we refuse to employ, instead spending resources on punishing the homeless rather than helping them recover.

We live in toxic culture of not only shaming and punishing people who need help, but of actively hating them and driving them to suffer on principle. We are a cruel, inhumane, hypocritical people who despise the poor and worship at the feet of the wealthy, despite most of us resembling the former far more than the latter.

Our mental health problems aren't going away any time soon, because we simply don't care to ensure the money gets spent to fix them.G.
