The Good News

Chris Cillizza:
Politico reported today on a Florida poll conducted for a business group in the state that shows Hillary Clinton beating Donald Trump by 13 points.

Why is that important? Because if Clinton wins Florida and carries the 19 states (plus D.C.) that have voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in each of the last six elections, she will be the 45th president. It's that simple.

That's actually very bad news. Hillary is a very dangerous woman to have on the nuclear button. And I highly doubt this sort of talk. I think Trump will win Florida (it was a tossup in 2000, and a tossup again in 2012 when the country as a whole was more Democratic), but will struggle in North Carolina. If Trump wins Pennsylvania, Florida, and Ohio, he wins the general election.

I'm... struggling... to understand your reasoning here.

On the one hand, we have a career politician who has a clear record of working within established power structures and in joint cooperation with both friends and rivals, and who has historically favored diplomacy over military action.

On the other hand, we have an egotistical racist womanizer with a Napoleon complex who has already made campaign promises that would be constituted as acts of war and crimes against humanity if carried out; who inherited a multi-billion dollar real estate firm yet repeatedly drove it bankrupt only to get bailed out every time; who only sees current financial success by practicing destructive, exploitative, amoral practices; and whose entire appeal among his support base is his violent, hateful, unrestrained, machismo fueled posturing and rhetoric.

And somehow you think Clinton would be the dangerous person to place in charge of our nuclear stockpile? Pray tell, why precisely would that be?

G. Verloren: Well said. Where will the USA be after 4 years of Trump vs 4 years of Clinton. Looking @ Trump's business record says we'll be Much Worse Off with him @ the helm. With Clinton, we may kick the can down the road, but there will be a road and a can to kick, plus we'll be in a position to choose another President.

Hillary's diplomatic accomplishments are rather thin, and her approach to foreign policy is more neocon and militant than I like. I also worry about people in positions of power whose public ethics are at best questionable. But elections are about choices, and Trump is an anti-intellectual narcissist unfit for office. Anyone have a clothespin I can use.
